Transmission facilities
The first Slovenian STASTCOM will be in Beričevo
Scope of work:
- Supply and installation of 400 kV STATCOM (±150 Mvar) – turnkey project
- Construction works
- Electrical installation works
- 400/51,5 kV transformer supply
- Auxiliary system supply
- Production and supply of control and protection system
- FAT and SAT tests
In June 2020, we were selected at a tender and became a leading contractor of the project – the first STATCOM in Slovenia. The STATCOM project is a part of a big smart grid investment project, Sinro.Grid, of European significance in the territory of Slovenia and Croatia. Within the Sincro.Grid project we are also the leading contractor for the MSCDN project and we are participating in projects in Cirkovce, Pekre and Okroglo as a subcotnrator.
The main purpose of the Sincro.Grid project is to manage the power of currents by using advanced technical systems and algorithms in such a way as to improve the quality of voltages in the electricity system and increase the transmission capacity of existing electricity lines. Integration of renewable energy sources into the electricity system will be easier and more efficient and will increase the security of customer supply.
Within the Sincro.Grid project the upgrade of existing distribution transformer substations with devices for reactive power compensation, battery power storage and advanced technologies and algorithms is forseen. With the upgrades of the distribution transformer subtstaions an active infrastructure will be created – a smart grid, which will, with a wide range of technical solutions and concepts, ensure increased energy transfer and enable network users to adapt to new circumstances.
What is STATCOM?
STATCOM is a custom designed system which is based on a voltage converter technology and also provides reactive power compenstaion and thus voltage control. It is installed on transmission networks and is most often connected to a transformer. It provides grid operators with reactive power compensation and improved range of operational voltage with a faster response time and a smaller footprint than traditional SVC solutions.
The outer part of the STATCOM consists of a medium-voltage switchyard, coils, a power transformer and a 400 kV switchyard, while the inner part consists of power semiconductors, a cooling system and protection and control components. The STATCOM components will be supplied by General Electric (GE).
Project implementation
The STATCOM system is the most comprehensive and, from a technical point of view, the most complex project within the Sincro.Grid project and among Slovenian transmission systems. The project will be carried out on a turnkey basis. We will supply and install equipment for a 400 kV field with a 400 kV circuit breaker, streamers, voltage current transformers and perform a complete installation of the equipment for STATCOM. Our partner in the consortium, Kolektor CPG, will carry out the construction work and our subcontractor, Kolektor Etra, will manufacture and supply the transformer.
Completion of the project is scheduled for early 2022.
